Generalizable Learning Engineering Adoption Maturity Model
Authors: Shelly Blake-Plock, Scotty D. Craig, Erin Czerwinski, Jim Goodell, Jodi Lis, Katherine McEldoon, Kevin Owens, Julian Stodd, Sae Schatz, Wendy Walsh · Venue: I/ITSEC 2024, Paper No. 24154 · Free: yes (PDF)

This paper gives organizations a self-assessment of how far they have actually adopted learning engineering, as opposed to whether they are ready to. Six rubrics cover multidisciplinary practice, the LE process, the learning sciences, human-centered design, systems engineering, and data-informed decision-making. Each runs from "no adoption" to "mature adoption". The authors then shrink the rubrics into a one-page checklist where unchecked boxes show the next areas to develop. It builds on ICICLE's definition of learning engineering and the ADL Distributed Learning Capability Maturity Model. It is meant to guide improvement, not to score or rank organizations.
